Today’s audio is part of ’s Substack Sound Circle where we celebrate the medium of audio alongside our writing. The prompt this week is “transitions” and I talk about how they can be fast! Or so slow that we might not even notice them happening…
Weaving words is a joy for me, and writing has always felt like a safe way to do that… but my dalliance with instagram stories over the last 4 years has really opened me up to using my voice.
I love using audio as a way of connecting and brought it in my Substack posts a few months back. Maybe you noticed that sometimes I do record my writing and sometimes I don’t… do you like it? let me know below…
Sharing a podcast was another way I wanted to connect with my voice and I took the leap to launch last year, stepping out of my comfort zone to bring you Who Do You Think You Are?
For the longest time I didn’t want to speak up, that’s part of the transition you’ll hear above… how I got to find my voice and myself. It was no coincidence that Laura’s invitation to record my voice came at the same time as an invitation from Gabrielle to share my self-belief journey, and of course I combined the two - you can read more about that at the end of this post.
Take a listen and maybe answer some of the questions I ask you at the end of the audio.
I’d love for you to reply to this email or comment below if you’re on the web/app.
Sending love & courage
Sarah xx
It was who invited me to reflect on what practical action I’d taken to build my self-belief… here is my response to her, I’ll be writing about it in more depth soon.
Hey Gabrielle, what a great question to reflect on…
I reached my mid 30’s before realising that self-belief was even a thing. And at the same time of course, the other side of the coin; self-doubt. Until then I just thought it was just me, incapable of ‘being like other people’.
What did I actually do about it?
worked with a coach to kick start my journey
got really honest about my unhelpful beliefs
designed ways to test new more helpful beliefs (there was one about the TV remote, I’d have to dig in journals for specifics!) and then importantly, over time, let the new beliefs take over as they gained momentum
made a conscious decision to notice all the positives about myself AND be really gentle when I got anything ‘wrong’ or ‘failed’… and if I do get sucked into a dark moment of “ohhh I’m useless, blah blah blah” I recognise it for what it is, a blip of tiredness, the vulnerability of growth or an inevitable plateau where the lack of growth feels like slipping back…
did some nurturing inner child work
worked with a therapist
learned my human design, got super specific about the shadows, the reconditioning and who I’m actually here to be, building the biggest self-trust I’ve ever known
shared my journey a lot, obviously to help others but also to embed everything I’ve done and make it increasingly real & believable for me
Each time I reflect on my journey, I’m celebrating how much I’ve changed & evolved…. ohhh it’s been great to look back again, thanks Gabrielle & Laura for the nudges! 💫
