and who gets to decide? my tentative explorations into ADHD plus the ups and downs of labelling and, naturally, where I see human design fitting into this conversation
Hi Sarah, I soooo resonate with this post! I too have felt that what people described as ADHD could apply to most people, because it surely did describe me, some of my closest friends and family members.
I've not been diagnosed, but now at 54 I am beginning to think I do have it. Discovering my design explained a lot about my experience in life (4/1 emotional Generator, with completely open Head, Root, and Will centers, channel 43/23, and a ton of Individual circuitry!), but now I suspect here is more to it. Having been someone who started practicing yoga/meditation and a slew of mindfulness techniques nearly 20 years ago, I realize I have inadvertently developed coping strategies that helped me manage my life.
I have been hesitant about publicly talking about it because of the possibility of people reacting the way you described in this post. I am grateful you have shared your experience, I think there is a lot of us in the same boat!
Hey Dana! Great to hear from you, thank you for joining in with this one, it’s a big topic for a lot of us right now hey? I’ve held off talking about it too, but the more I lean into being me, the harder I find it to stay quiet and let others unhelpful comments drive my direction!
And yes we do just figure out how to cope don’t we? I always figured everyone else was coping with the same stuff internally and if they could deal with it, then I’d find a way too. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, but sometimes exhausting!
I’ve been chatting with a few people this week about some of the ways that knowing human design can help, and - for me - kind of reassure or settle some of the uncomfortable traits… I don’t think for one minute it’s a diagnostic tool, but I do find it hugely supportive.
Yes, glad to find I'm not alone in my thinking! And don't apologize for bringing everything back to Human Design- once you know, it's so hard not too. I always say HD doesn't solve or explain everything, but it sure is a lot better to have in your tool belt than not!
Wow - I can't believe that email response. I am sorry. I don't want to jump on YOUR bandwagon but one thing someone said to me that I found helpful was almost a warning in advance, that other people make comments from what they glimpse on the outside but you are talking about how you feel on the inside. I love how you brought this back to human design. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Lucy 🙏 I’ll just clarify that the email was completely separate from the awful conversation - if I’d had the conversation with lovely Susannah it would have been so different!
I love your comment, you’re so right and it’s probably a message we need to keep reminding of ourselves and sharing widely too… I really just always thought everyone else must feel like this inside. It just shows the power of the sharing we get to do in this connected world. Otherwise how would we know?
Sometimes I try not to link everything back to human design, but it just slips out! When people can see themselves and learn to love themselves, that’s just the best… a journey we’re all on right?
Just as anyone who isn’t a clinician can’t say for certain you have ADHD, they also can’t say you don’t! It’s a lot to get your head around so go gently and you know where I am if you want to talk. I don’t know much about human design but I’m intrigued to know if the adhd women you know are mostly a type? I’m manifesting generator…
Thank you lovely, it would be amazing to talk to you and I appreciate the offer ✨
Good question and it does feel like there would be a natural link to ManGens from the headlines about that type, but so far they’ve been a bit of each, and quite a few projectors - I’ve talked to other HD people about it and whilst we can’t correlate anything specific there are some places in the chart that offer insights - I find these reassuring in and of themselves because they explain a lot, plus HD shifts focus from shadow to gift in each area, so it brings a shift to the positive aspects whilst accepting each of those parts as being exactly as we’re designed, rather than fighting to be someone else.
I’m a generator, but often the transits shift my definition to MG - and I do often feel what I could describe as MG energy internally… or maybe that’s the ADHD? I’ve also got an open head centre and prominent gate 56 (shadow of distraction) and a few other bits that all feel a bit like some ADHD traits, so whether or not I get an official diagnosis i see that it’s all part of me.
It’s interesting to watch at any rate, and noticing how I’ve created my own patterns and strategies over the years without being conscious of it. X
