on being a human design manifestor
permission to take the unconventional path, feeling liberated and finding sanctuary in a farmyard
Hey you, I’m continuing with my ‘Human Design Types’ interview series today, talking to my friend and client, Nicola Fisher.
Today we’re talking all about the Manifestor Type:
Manifestors make up around 10% of the population and are here to initiate! Of all the types they are the only ones who should be acting on unprompted creative urges… that’s not to say other types aren’t creative! Generator types create in response to the world and Projectors create with the right invitations… but Manifestors can just get on with it, so long as their inner authority knows it’s right for them.
The rest of us often want to be Manifestors, and when we see them aligned and in action, it’s magnetic!
But when the rest of us aren’t aligned it can be uncomfortable being around a Manifestor, they have a big sparkly energy that can feel “too much” and they can be told to, or feel like they should, be less to make everyone else feel more at ease.
I was lucky enough to meet
a few years ago when we were in a coaching group together. Nicola is self-described work in progress; she’s a writer, photographer and geek, as well as currently being a farm-hand and smallholder with a passion for living life at a gentler pace. She has a wonderful gentle energy about her, but I could also feel the power in her, the way she just gets on and make things happen… we reconnected a few months ago when she was changing roles and wanted to dive into her design. You’ll hear how that unfolded, as well as some snippets about the direction her work is going next. Here’s how the conversation went…
✨ how long have you been in your experiment / known you’re a manifestor? Did it resonate right away?
Really only since last November; I’ve downloaded the chart before, but it didn’t really register and it was only with the input from you that it made sense. I could then use the information in the transition, to guide me, it’s been liberating and completely changed my thought process, giving me permission to go down this crazy route that I always wanted to go down… it always seemed so impractical and unconventional and just not realistic but now I can see that’s what’s always been calling to me.
✨ what has it helped you to unlock?
I get this excitement when things come up! I am a geek and love my tech, I go down the rabbit holes with tech, I can see all the ways I could go, this could be part of a project! But thinking what am I doing, this is nonsense project? But understanding the characteristics of a manifestor means I don’t need to worry about those concerns, I can just go with it and go with the flow, so 2024 is about going with the flow and seeing where that takes me. I envisage this will be a different year than any I’ve had. I’m 60 this year, it seems like a milestone. I’ve spent a lot of my life knowing I had an unconventional side but trying to suppress it and it’s really now I’m thinking I do it now or it’s never going to happen. Combining that with what I’ve learned in my design, it’s given me that framework of ‘these are things’ I can do, and follow my purpose.
✨we know that Manifestors have a big bright energy and often are encouraged as young people to “be less” - how has that played out for you?
My mum was very traditional and even in my teens my thought process was unconventional “why do this when we could do it like that?” but my mum was more “oh no, this is how its always been done” and for a long time that did influence me, even into being an adult. A lot of what I’m interested in, and there’s a reason for this, is about being authentic and living your truth, I call it tapping into your essence, I think it’s a kickback from not living my essence when I was younger, I think that’s coming out and it’s important that I do pursue that. I think it’s important for everybody to discover who they are and human design & what I learned has been a key part of that process.
The idea of essence has been bubbling away for 15-20 years, is it going to sit there? for me it’s got to have something done about it, that’s what I’m here for now.
✨ it sounds like there’s lots to love.. but are there any challenges for you, in being an manifestor?
It’s so easy to revert to type, or who I used to be, so when you say it’s about being this big self, it doesn’t come naturally. It’s easy to squash myself down and the biggest challenge will be not letting myself do that. With some people I can give rein to the bigness and with others I can’t. I’d like to be more consistent and not alter myself depending who I’m with. Not going back to who I was will be the challenge.
✨ and anything else you’d like to share?
Last year I finished a work contract and that was an office based role. Now I’m doing something radically different, on a farm, lambing, moving sheep - it feels more like me than a lot of the stuff I’ve done over the years. The farm feels like a sanctuary, somewhere I can be myself. This is going down the unconventional path, not mainstream. It feels so much more me, so having those conversations with you about being a manifestor ties in, and I’m just going with it, seeing where it takes me this year, it’s fitting in with what I want to do and write about, it’s a big part of that.
And on that sanctuary, and finding peace (the signature theme of a manifestor) I’m spending a lot of time with sheep now, and when I embody that calm they work with me better, more smoothly, like getting them in a trailer, the calm makes a big difference. I’m experimenting with that! I delivered a lamb last week, and they come up to nuzzle my hand when I feed them, it’s very different to anything I’ve done, a unique experience.
Oh, thank you so much Nicola, I loved our chat and it’s amazing to see you leaning into your design and making those changes towards being so in alignment. I can’t wait to see what’s next! You can find out more about Nicola on her website, or read her new-ish Substack
for all things gentler pace.I’ll be back soon with more interviews to share what it really means to be living your design, sharing more about some of the things I’ve talked briefly about in the videos - please do get in touch if you’ve any questions, or you’d like to be in a post like this - which also goes on the podcast!
With love

Human Design is a blend of modern science and ancient wisdom, and the ultimate profiling tool, giving us full permission to be ourselves. It’s like a user manual for each of us, showing us how to be who we’re designed to be, how to work with our energy and how to make great decisions that are just right for each of us. We can find our purpose, our ideal environment & our superpowers on this map. And we can journey through it to heal ourselves, our relationships & our work. If you’d like to find out more, download your free chart here or book a chart reading with me here
Here’s a quick reminder of the 5 types:
Manifestors - about 10% of people - here to initiate and inspire
Generators - c 35% - here to create, build and do what lights them up
Manifesting Generators - c35% - here to move fast, try things out and and show the way
Projectors - c20% - here to guide others to their highest potential
Reflectors - c1% - here to reflect the possibility in the world and others
Each type has their particular purpose on the planet👆… what often happens as we grow up is that we’re conditioned (taught) to be something other than the way we’re designed, so that our energy is out of whack, we don’t make the right decisions for us, and we don’t lean into our superpowers…
So, when I’m unpacking a chart, we start out by looking at ‘type’, and this the first place I get to tell clients “here’s how to be YOU, and yes it’s ok, you really get to be like this!”
After that, we start to get into the nuance because, you’ll already guess, we don’t all fit neatly into one of five little boxes… but it’s a great starting point for the conversation.
Thanks so much, Sarah, for having me as a guest on your podcast. So great to hear it back and to consolidate everything I've learned from you about being a Manifestor. Perfect timing and life changing.
Yay a fellow manifestor. Resonated so much Nicola, love that you are following your instincts now 💫🌈
