Maybe it’s a winter thing, but recently I’ve been puzzling. Often with the ‘help’ of my team of furry friends… I wrote about why just here.
Sometimes though when I write, there’s just too much for one post, spilling over into a part two.
This part is about the two sentences I repeated on a loop throughout each jigsaw we completed…
“there’s definitely a piece missing…”
I’d nearly finished the garden, and I could see from the picture that the last piece of the rose bush was mostly greens but with a corner of, probably, orangey pink. But it wasn’t there. Maddening after a while. I stepped away, got on with the house and the sky and… I’ll just try this piece in that frustrating gap. It didn’t look anything like I was expecting! I take it back out and try to figure out how the jigsaw makers do it. How they create pieces that fit, but you’d never guess in a million years. You simply cannot imagine what they look like.
Do you ever find this?
When I was in my teens and twenties something was missing, for me. I couldn’t put my finger on it for years. Out of the blue one day, I realised I wanted to be a mum. I’d never felt this before, but right away it was the missing piece.
When I was feeling small and unfulfilled at work I knew there must be something more that would fill this void but couldn’t figure out what it might look like. It turned out to be coaching. I’d never heard of it before but it fitted perfectly.
When I realised I wanted to spread my confidence building work into organisations I had no idea what it could possibly look like, it wasn’t something I’d ever done before. When I was invited out of the blue to run groups at a local women’s charity, it was the piece that slotted right into place.
The flip side of that?
“where does THIS piece even go?!”
Quietly, half way through the emerging image, I’m browsing the pieces, not sure what I’m looking for… wait. What’s this? That doesn’t go anywhere surely. There is LITERALLY no place in this jigsaw for that… oh. I see!
Do you ever have people or projects or invitations show up in your life that just don’t fit at all? Until that magical moment when you realise they are EXACTLY what you need?
I bet you do, so let me wrap up the jigsaw theme with some puzzly prompts for you to ponder…
💫 where have you had unexpected pieces slotting perfectly into your life?
✨ what gaps are you feeling just now and how can you release any preconceptions of what the missing piece looks like?
💫 where can you lean into more trust and patience?
